Emme took a turn on the backyard catwalk modeling Crib Rock Couture Concert Tee's and Hautie Pants Bloomers with her new hand-me-down hot pink cowgirl boots! Crib Rock Tee's and Hautie Pants bloomers are top sellers for baby shower gifts at Polka Dot Whale and personal favorites of mine....if you couldn't tell!
I've always been a fan of the bath and body product stores...could never get enough of collecting scents and scrubbing, slathering and buffing to my hearts delight! As a new mom, my own beautification routine has been reduced to a 3 minute shower following by 5 minutes of wet hair combing and tying back with a rubber band, facial moisturizer, deoderant and the quickest slather of whatever lotion I can get my hands on! Where I take my time and pay extra attention to quality and safety in pampering these days is with my baby girl. Emme is Earth Mama Angel Baby's biggest baby fan!
I love the smell of freshly washed baby hair and my newest baby shampoo of choice is the Foaming Shampoo & Wash from Earth Mama Angel Baby has the most amazing orange oil scent that lingers for hours! After using the Earth Mama Angel Baby Pregnancy and Birth products when Emme was born, I was sold on the line and couldn't have been more pleased to find recently that they have received top rating from the Environmental Working Group for no to very low risk of toxicity and allergy. We are hearing more everyday about the high levels of potentially hazardous chemicals found in the cosmetic products we use in our households everyday. The Skin Deep Website by the Environmental Working Group will give you all the data you need to see whether your products stand up to rigorous safety tests. Check out this valuable information about your own and your child's sunscreen! Earth Mama Angel Baby is known for the exceptional quality of their products for Mamas and Babies, but also for their kindness to the earth. All products are made certified 100% organic. Ingredients you can trust---No phthalates, no parabens, no sodium lauryl sulfate, no 1,4-Dioxane, no DEA. Nearly every brand in your drugstore cannot say the same. Find all Earth Mama Angel Baby products at Polka Dot Whale, including their amazing giftsets perfect for the Natural Mama & Baby you want to pamper!
Our new neighborhood holds the most adorable, down home, 4th of July Parade for the kiddos! A couple of Emme's best baby friends came over to help us celebrate with dinner and strawberry shortcake! We decked out Emme's trike and Evan and Isabella decorated their strollers in patriotic parade fashion. Turned out the strollers were a better option since Emme rode her bike (with Daddy pushing) for about half a block, then rode the rest of the way on Mom's hip while Dad carried the bike! Already looking forward to next year!
Emme is wearing some of my very favorite summer fashions by Tea Collection Daily Tea. Anything by Tea Collection has a very distinctive style with a little bit of Asian aesthetic. I love the sophistated styles, in the soft, comfortable cotton fabrics that children can wear and play in everyday. And, talk about staying beautiful wash after wash--the quality is unmatched. The prices are great, too, and all the different prints and pieces mix and match to create lots of different outfit combination with just a few pieces. They recommend getting 6 pieces (for about $120) and making 9 outfits. Great option for summer travel! My favorite place to buy Daily Tea fashions for boys and girls (sizes 3 months-5T)each season is Emmy & Ally. Sign up for their news letter for special discounts and other promotions!
My mom lives just a couple of miles from the coolest little city park...tucked back in a large neighborhood, next to an elementary shcool. The trees are mere saplings, so shade is scarce, but the brand new equipment and spongy ground surface make it modern and so much fun for the little ones. Last time I checked out the park, Emme was only old enough for the infant swings, but, this past weekend, she proved that she is really off and running! She explored every nook and cranny, which made for some excellent photo ops...and, in spite of the nearly 100 degree temps at 8 o'clock in the morning, she still managed to have a good time. Living in an urban setting, parks are a gold mine for exercise, relaxation and outdoor fun. A friend just forwarded me this link to a really cool park in Southern Calfornia called Atlantis Play Center in Garden Grove, CA. Aagghhh--I can't wait to go and wish that there were more parks like this in our area! My mom recently visited the Fairytale Town Park in Sacramento, CA and had a ball with my sister and her 2-year-old son, Russell.
We'd love to hear about your favorite park---send us the link in a comment, so that your fellow readers can get in on the action if they live in the area!

So, we just moved after living in the same place for nearly 6 years! I haven't had to think about a change of address for quite some time, but being my style conscious and paper loving self, I felt that I needed some really cute moving announcements to mail out. I recently had the good fortune of coming across Sweet Mady's Paper Studio online and knew that I just had to have those little Birdie Moving Announcements. The very sweet designs at Sweet Mady's Paper will have you lusting after everything from invitations to baby announcements to thank you notes and personalized stationery. Michelle is quick and easy to work with when designing your custom paper creations. The finished product is a very lovely quality that does not disappoint! As a mom of 3, Michelle really has the pulse on what parents are looking for in paper products, invites, announcement and stationery in terms of functionality and style. Click here to read more about Michelle & Sweet Mady's Paper.
I must say that one of the best features of Sweet Mady's Paper is that the price is right. Especially in today's economy, moms, like myself, are looking for the best quality and style at reasonable prices. Sweet Mady's definitely meets that expectation. For about $1.25 for most card selections, you, too, can capture the beauty and class of personalized stationery with Sweet Mady's Paper, without spending a small fortune! I adore the calling cards for kids and adults. I have calling cards that declare I am "Emme's Mommy" and they come in handy at the playground when I meet a new mom and want to hand off my contact info without making a scene digging for a pen and all....the perfect gift for new and veteran Mommies! I also love the idea of the Boutique Boxes that contain an assortment of Sweet Mady's Paper greeting cards and note cards to suit any occasion. Another great gift for yourself or a friend at just $18.00.
Check out Michelle's blog for contests and updates! She made a fun collage from selected May orders! See if you can spot my moving announcement on the May Customer Collage and pick out something fun at Sweet Mady's Paper for yourself today!
Uncommonly Cute has been one of my favorite lines of funny baby t-shirts for a few years now! With the 2008 Presidential election nearly in full swing, I thought I'd let you all know about the darling Lil' Democrat and Lil' Republican Tees for sale at Polka Dot Whale! We can hardly keep them in stock as they make a great new baby gift for a politico friend or make a statement with your own little one.
Personally, I take my politics pretty seriously and was so excited to take Emme with me to vote for this year's primary....regardless of who you were rooting for, you gotta admit that it's pretty amazing to take your baby girl in to vote in an election that could have resulted in the 1st Woman President...Anything is possible Baby Girl!
Lots of folks have asked me what my baby girl's nursery is like...Well, the truth of the matter is that Emme's nursery was a darling little corner of my own bedroom until our recent move where she has set up shop in the room next to ours. Spare white walls initially made me nervous, but Em's bright bedding and accessories have really made it all come together quite nicely. I thought I'd share a few pics of what I've pulled together in the 3 weeks since our move, white walls and all, and let you know where you, too can track down some of the fantastic finds for your own little one's nursery!
As you can see, the overarching theme is little birdies! I was already jumping on the "bird" bandwagon and wanted to have Emme's bedding made when Pottery Barn Kids came out with their Sweet Birdie bedding for 2007. I was delighted and went crazy with the theme. Many of the pillows and accessories you see here are from PBK. I have since collected little birdie items here and there to jazz things up a bit. Before I move on--Birdie theme aside, my all-time favorite must-have nursery item from Pottery Barn Kids is the silky soft CHAMOIS fabric for sheets, pillowcases, duvet covers and changing pad covers.
My sister Leslie painted this incredible wall hanging with my birdie theme and Emme's name. I love to sit in my rocking chair and stare at it day after day. I never get tired of that gorgeous mural and I hope Emme will one day treasure it as much as I do! The white walls are just begging for something more, so I searched online for weeks for the perfect wall decals that would be removable causing no damage to the walls and allowing for changes in style and theme as time goes by. I finally decided on Elephannie Wall Decals when I searched Etsy for something custom and handmade that would perfectly match Emme's existing nursery decor. I emailed pictures of Em's nursery decor to Elephannie and specifically requested this style of bird and the 3 color set-up. My every wish was granted and within just a few days, I had this branch with leaves and a little birdie....and, 3 more birdies to fly around the room and perch above the door. I have found nothing cuter for the price and quality that you get with Elephannie. Scroll down to see what was custom created for Emme's Under the Sea Theme Bathroom! Emme walks up to the wall and oohs and aahs at the mermaid before every bath...it is sooooo sweet! Such an easy way to create the fantasy bedroom or bathroom you are dreaming of for your little ones! Shop Elephannie...
When looking for a little something sweet to give Emme for her first birthday, I perused Etsy for a few weeks and came up with this little name pillow, matching quilt and little hanging birdie! Emme loves them (okay, maybe not as much as I love them, but she will:)).I adore the way that Etsy allows you to search for lovely, handmade, heirloom quality gifts direct from the source. Not to mention, the great prices and personalized service I get each time I work with an Etsy seller. If you haven't checked out the world of Etsy yet, do so today! The little name pillow was custom handmade by Marie at Belle Marie Designs. The matching patchwork quilt was custom handmade by Oh Sew Fresh Baby. Both the pillow and quilt (seen on the chair) feature the fantastic Freshcut Fabric designed by the one and only Heather Bailey. It is plain to see that I can't get enough of the sweet pink & green color combo! Don't you love the little hanging birdie? It is a dreamcatcher made by Tamar at Nest Pretty Things. The most precious little pink bird hangs from the ceiling and greets me each time I enter Emme's room. I love the way she smiles when she sees it, too!
Emme's Under The Sea Bathroom Wall Decals by Elephannie! Super Cute Custom Designs start at under $20, so start dreaming and see what they can create for you!
So, Emme tossed the contestants' names into her Fisher-Price Fish Bowl and pulled out a winner (while clutching her Rose Cat Bla Bla doll, of course)! Drum roll please....the lucky winner of our first ever contest is Monica J. who told us that her favorite Bla Bla Sweater Friend Doll is Leopold the lion and would be perfect for the baby boy she was expecting any day. Congratulations, Monica J. on winning a Leopold Lion doll and on the birth of your bouncing baby boy on May 28th! I wish you all the best and hope you enjoy motherhood as much as I do!
We recently moved to a house, where Emme is free to run, jump and play in the yard (well, she's got the playing part down, but since she just started walking the running and jumping are still around the corner;)). So, with the addition of a yard, came the addition of a whole new venue to fill with fun, entertaining and totally obnoxious looking toys! If it's loud, colorful (preferably pink), large and Emme and I will LOVE it! When Nana helped us move, we made a trip to Target for "necessities" and, thanks to Nana, came home with some "necessities" for our new backyard!
The clear favorite is the Sand & Water Table. We are holding off on putting any actual sand in this thing until Emme is out of the pick-it-up-and-taste-it phase, but it's providing hours of enjoyment with a little water fresh from the hose (also courtesy of Nana:)). Emme toddlers over to the windows in our bedroom's french doors each morning to pear out at the vast expanse (from her perspective) that is her new playground and makes a bee-line for the Sand & Water Table as soon as I will consent to opening up those doors. She'll play in that water rain or shine no matter how cold the water turns and loves to get soaked. It affords me the luxury of sitting down and looking at magazines and catalogs....something I've longed for the chance to do again since Emme's birth. So, what baby doesn't love to play in the water, making a perfectly clean mess and what Mama doesn't love the excuse to sit on the porch or patio "supervising" the baby while she plays? For lots of selection in Sand & Water tables, click here. You'll see lots of cool options, like included toys, funnels and water wheels, covers and umbrellas!
I've learned quickly, that kids from about 12 months on, are often huge fans of tents and tunnels. Emme is no exception, so we've outfitted the backyard with a matching tent and tunnel from the This fabulous tent also functions as a "playhouse" and was a big hit last Friday, when Emme's friend, Anabelle came over to play. It comes in a pink nylon bag for storing and as soon as I pulled it out of the bag (dreading the assembly that might be required), it popped up and was ready for action! Can't complain about that...no baby tugging at your leg, climbing over the top of the tent and box and you while you break out into a sweat trying to read the directions in Swedish and search frantically for a Phillips screwdriver! Nope, my make-up staying tact and I didn't need to refrain from the use of foul language:) Just another reason to love this tent and love seeing my baby getting into the swing of summer! Target actually has quite the collection of play tents to choose from. The little farm house and cottage styles are so cute! Click here to view them all...
Now, when it comes time to pick up a baby pool these days there are endless options, too. If you've got a "real" pool or are going on vacation, you'll want to pick up one of the new styles of pool floaties for the little ones. Baby Pool Floaties have come a long way and are so darn cute with their little sunshades and these like frogs and flowers. I am a fan of the line of Inflatable Pools and waterslides for babies and big kids from Banzai. Our friends had this little Banzai Baby Pool at their daughter's 2nd birthday party last year and the kids had a ball!
The last thing that I think I might need before the summer really heats up is one of these Outdoor Infant to Toddler Swings. I've seen them hanging on patios and porches and even from trees, but, like many other moms and dads, I am a little concerned as to how sturdy it will be. They do look like tons of fun and as much as Emme likes to swing, I know she'd get a lot of use out of it. Not to mention that most of these types of swings are under $20, so with most "swing sets" looming well above the $400 mark, it's one a great summer bargain! I like this swing from Fisher-Price...
I've decided to compile my TOP 10 Baby Shower Gift List and 1st Free Product Giveaway will start here with #10 and work my way up to #1 over the next couple of months. I think you'll find these posts pretty useful as I'll give a little review of the product and point out some of the special features that make the item a favorite for my own family and friends! I have paid special attention to select baby shower gifts that are both useful and fun and will garner the "oohs and aahs" you are hoping for when your special gift is opened at the shower!
Bla Bla Handknit Sweater Friends Dolls make fun, whimsical and unique baby shower gifts for boys and girls alike. The variety of darling characters from dogs to frogs to mermaids will pitter patter their way into your heart. Many folks come back again and again to purchase a special Bla Bla Handknit Sweater Friends Doll as a unique baby gift for the newest addition to their circle of family and friends. The craftsmanship of these handknit dolls is quite lovely with that handmade touch that cannot be found just anywhere. Many parents today are looking for cloth and wood toys for their children because of precautions about plastics and other synthetic materials used in the manufacturing process. Bla Bla’s dolls are crafted from 100% cotton with natural fiber fill.
The colorful and creative designs of each and every character make these handknit dolls stand out from the crowd. Each doll’s face is just delightful--Emme smiles so wide at the site of her Lulu Flower Doll and we plan to continually add to her Bla Bla Handknit Sweater Friends Doll collection with each passing birthday or holiday. We walked through a local boutique the other day called Blue Windows and I looked down at Emme to find she had snagged 3 big Bla Bla dolls from a barrel where they wre on display in the kids section....good thing I noticed before we left the store, 'cause little Emme would've been booked for shoplifting! In my opinion, Bla Bla Handknit Sweater Friends Dolls are unique and special enough to make a baby shower gift tradition or baby’s first birthday gift tradition for the fun-loving babies and parents in your life.
To enter the FREE PRODUCT GIVEAWAY for the chance to win a free Bla Bla doll of our choice for a special little one in your life, visit our Bla Bla page and please leave a comment indicating which doll is your favorite...be sure to fill in the email address field when leaving your comment so we can contact you when you WIN! (Winner will be randomly selected)
One of the cutest lines of infant & toddler clothing for girls has to be by Tralala Inc.! The gorgeous floral prints they introduce each season are classic, vintage, frilly and French as can be. I just love it and so does Emme. She loves to lounge in her 2-piece Cami Playwear sets by Tralala and our newborn baby girl friends look just scrumptious in the 2-piece Kimono Layette sets by Tralala! The summer collection is fresh on the page at Polka Dot Whale.com and ready to snap up....hurry, Tralala clothing for baby girls flies off the shelf and you'll be so sad you missed out! Ranging in price from $39-$44, Tralala outfits are the perfect baby shower gift. We just LOVE how they coordinate with Jamie Rae Hats & Headbands, too! I can't wait to see what prints and styles they have brewing for the Fall and Holiday season...stay tuned....
The land is abuzz with raves about the latest plush toy/blanket/pillow craze...Zoobie Pets! I discovered Zoobie Pets at the Baby Celebration L.A. a few weeks back and Emme has been lovin' up her Hada the Hippo ever since. Zoobie Pets embody an innovative and newly patented 3-in-1 concept...each pet is a plush toy, a soft pillow and comfy blanket all in one--the perfect childhood companion! The more I learn about Zoobie Pets, it has become clear that it isn't just the munchkins that can't get enough of their Zoobie Pets...
I stumbled across a blog post by Meredith Viera of The View & Today Show fame just the other day. Apparently a fan gifted her with a Zoobie Mashaka the Monkey a while back and she intended to take it home to her tween daughter, Lily, but instead, fell asleep in the car, cuddled up with that Zoobie Mashaka the Monkey and has lived to tell about it. It's now her go-to gift for friends with babies and little ones, including Today Show co-host Natalie Morale's 4-year-old son, whom Viera gifted with a Zoobie Jafaru the Giraffe!!
A fun feature is the animals' signature faces are so squishy since they are made with micro-beads and the body is the softest velour-like texture that make these plush toys some of the squishiest & cuddliest around. The fleece blanket inside the pillow-like body is also incredibly soft and snuggly. I highly recommend Zoobie Pets for travel as your little one is guaranteed to have a familiar friend, a soft pillow and a warm blanket anytime that his Zoobie Pet is in tow...Emme will be toting her Hippo on all of our summer excursions and visits to Grandma! All components make for one of the most unique gifts for babies and big kids that I have seen in a while! At a loss for what to send your nephew for his birthday or your niece for her First Communion? Send a Zoobie Pet today....at just $34, these adorable gifts are a steal!
Emme has been struggling with a little cold and her Zoobie Pet has been a real comfort. Here, my sick baby snuggles her Zoobie Pet this morning while she watched Sesame Street on TV...Notice her squeezing Hada the Hippo's ever-so-squishable face!
One of Baby Emme's favorite First Christmas gifts is her Radio Flyer Classic Rock & Bounce Pony
for infants & toddlers! It is a really fun find and I think it makes a great First Birthday Gift, Baby's First Christmas Gift of even new baby gift...I can totally picture one at the next posh celebrity baby shower! It's all the fun of a traditional Radio Flyer Jumping Horse for older toddlers & kids and a rocking horse rolled up into one. With the added bonus that is completely safe for these little ones. Low to the ground, rubbery bands for the bouncing action and plastic runners for the rocking action. She has just recently really gotten the hang of how to make that pony rock & bounce and likes for me to sing the Lone Ranger theme song while she does it. She looks so cute bobbing up and down that I love to fulfill her tiny demands!
We all recall our favorite little red wagon from childhood and thanks to Radio Flyer there are classic and wildly updated versions of that Radio Flyer Little Red Wagon to choose from today for today's babies and big kids. Not to mention fun accessories like sunshades, padded seats and cooler packs! Nana picked up a new Radio Flyer Red Wagon this past Christmas and I adore the picks of her pulling Emme and her 2-year-old cousin, Russell, around the house in the Christmas jammies! Check them out....
A good selection of Radio Flyer Wagons, Jumping Horses and Trikes can be hard to find...the best I've come across is Red Wagons, where you'll find the entire collection of Radio Flyer toys for babies, toddlers & big kids!
With summer fast-approaching , I've been on a mission to gather up all of the necessary products to make time spent in the sun as much fun and guilt-free as possible this year! Mother's of today are charged with the extraordinary task of protecting our little ones from even a single sunburn.... with innocent summers in the sun resulting in wrinkles, sunspots and melanoma! Read more about sun protection for kids here...
With all the information we have these days about the dangers of overexposure to the sun, starting in childhood, we really do owe it to our kids to give them a safe and healthy start. So, I'm here to share with you, some of my favorite finds for summer sun protection (and sun protection all year 'round!)
1) The "rash guard" style bathing suits for babies and toddlers that offer 50+ SPF Protection are a genius solution for the beach and pool. Not only are you spared wrestling your girls into strappy fitted bathing suits and trying to get the sunscreen spread evenly in spite of those same straps, boys aren't left with their entire upper body exposed to those harmful rays. Emme has 2 of these style suits and each has a swim diaper and short-sleeve top. This is also great for swim diaper changes (see above comments about wresting baby girl in and out of strappy bathing suit;)).
2) A great floppy sunhat is indispensable for Mommy & Baby! Emme won't always wear a hat, but I keep trying, because it goes so far in terms of protecting her eyes, face, sensitive scalp and chest & shoulders! I love the selection of sun hat colors found at Hanna Andersson. You're sure to find a sun hat match for every bathing suit and outfit and they are currently offering a special price of $10 on many colors!
3) Another fantastic sun product new to the market is sunscreen in a wipe formulation! I had purchased a few different brands and hadn't used either until a couple of weeks ago. I'm going to pick up more the very next time I see them! There is no chance of accidentally squirting baby in the eye with a glob of sunscreen, no chance of baby getting a hold of the bottle and making a mess or (heaven forbid) ingesting some and no chance of sunscreen leaking all over your beach or diaper bag! The wipes are very easy to use AND in spite of my fears to the contrary, really do cover one entire baby with one wipe. I have been equally happy with the usability and the sun protection offered by these two brands, at opposing ends of the price spectrum! Pick up Baby Blanket Brand SPF 45+ wipes at Babies R Us and get 6 for $7.99. Baby Silk SPF 30+ wipes may be purchased at Right Start, 3 for $7.99. In case you don't already know, the wonderful Baby Silk product line by MD Moms is worth every penny--it's pediatrician-tested and a favorite of all the big name celebrity mamas we know & love!
4) Another modern convenience is that every conceivable baby gear item for the beach or pool now comes with a sunshade canopy! The Baby Spring Float from One Step Ahead is both fun & functional. Mama loves a good cabana and now baby can enjoy a mini cabana all her own... check out the Sun Stop'r Deluxe Kwik Cabana, also from One Step Ahead.
Emme can sit in her floaty all day long in the pool, so with a sunhat, canopy, rash guard bathing suit & super protective sunscreen wipes, I think we pretty much have sun protection covered for this summer!
Leave us comment and let us know what you and your little ones do to keep cool and stay safe in the summer sunshine!
Happy Mother's Day, Mother Earth! It is her special day and we'd better all get it together to do a little something special for her! It's been a good year for Mother Earth...finally getting the attention she deserves (she did help Al Gore win that Oscar after all) and finally getting a little respect from Congress to PARENTS everywhere! I've posted about my Green Living favorites in the past, but I thought I'd offer up a few of the Earth Day Deals I've come across in the last couple of weeks....
DEAL ALERT #1: Seventh Generation has a cool new website with special coupons year round! Sign up for all the special deals direct from the source. I love Seventh Generation's dish soap, kitchen/countertop spray, paper towels and diapers the mostest! I've tried some other mainstream brands and natural brands and the "hybrid diapers" and I just keep coming back to Seventh Generation for more. No hideous cartoon character designs, super absorbent and super soft & stretchy, no diaper rashes while wearing these diapers (not ever!) and they've even come out with "Training Pants" for toddlers!
DEAL ALERT #2: Our friends at Tiny Revolutionary are offering a super Earth Day Deal of $10 Off any revolutionary baby or child t-shirt order in honor of Earth Day! This deal cannot be passed up. Their baby and child t-shirts are the cutest, softest and "friendliest" around...friend to the EARTH and friendly to human kind! With designs like, "Drive a Hybrid, Save Some Green for Me", "Be the Change You Wish to See in the World," and "I'll Change the World Someday"....it seems that Tiny Revolutionary and Earth Day are a perfect match!
DEAL ALERT #3: If you've been thinking, "Geez, I wish they sold all of these cool Green & Natural products I'm hearing about on tv and online in the stores I shop at!" Well, never fear, Green & Natural products will be right at your fingertips with Drugstore.com! Drugstore.com is offering up to 40% off natural and green products! Super fabulous deals on some of my very favorite products for kids like California Baby, Burt's Bees, Baby's Bliss Gripe Water (the miracle rescue from newborn colic!!!)! You can also take advantage of free shipping offers. I have ordered from Drugstore.com and been very happy with my service, products, prices. etc. Very convenient when you are stocking up for a new baby on the way or when your local stores don't carry some of these specialized items you can't live without!
CRAFTS: I found this cool Earth Day craft that is fun any time of year and gives a creative way to recycle the many baby food jars we use at our house--I like the idea of creating a Baby Food Jar Herb Garden! Simply reuse the little glass jars, without their lids and fill with potting soil and mini herb plants or seeds. Arranged on a kitchen windowsill, the jars have a bit of an antique-hunter-on-Sundays appeal and will make all those yummy homemade dinner you whip up on a nightly basis that much more fresh & special! Check out other Earth Day & Baby Food Jar Craft Ideas here and here!

I am back, with photos of Emme at the park and myself, wearing my Emme Photo Necklace by Romero Designs--the charm can be square or round, the chain is the beaded sterling silver (like a dogtag chain) and it is perfectly casual for everyday wear!
We received one of the most fun little items in the mail recently...this little pink pair of baby sunglasses from Baby Banz! As first glance I thought, "What a shame...so cute, but Emme will totally refuse to wear them!" Boy, was I wrong, I strapped on the Baby Banz in the bright Southern California Sunshine and what can I say, but, "Emme likes 'em! She really likes 'em!" She gets the biggest kick out of seeing herself in the mirror while wearing them, too! The adjustable strap around the head is very soft (like wetsuit fabric), but fits snug so that the shades don't just slip down. These baby sunglasses will be great for the beach and pool this summer! She has pulled them down a couple of times, but the strap keeps them around her neck, so they are not lost forever, like any other pair of cute little baby sunglasses has been so far! Designed in Australia, Baby Banz are thoughtfully made for babies and children, with UV protection in mind. Baby Banz fit up to age 2 years and Kid Banz fit ages 2-5 years. They come in tons of fun kid-friendly colors and a new Retro Style! After trying them out, we are now official Baby Banz "Fanz"...check out the Baby Banz fan club and send in a pic of your own baby wearing Baby Banz!
Here, Emme sports her Baby Banz at Fashion Island outdoor shopping mall on today's outing to lunch at the Cheesecake Factory and a carousel ride with our best friends, Laura and Anabelle! Two women stopped me by the fountain and asked where I got my baby's sunglasses--now you all know the secret!
Baby Banz has an amazing FAQ Section that I found wildly worth posting to answer all your questions about UV Protection for Little Ones and the difference that Baby Banz Can Make...Read on...
Banz are a necessity to cover infant and toddler eyes from the harmful
rays of UV (ultra violet) light. Until approx 8-9 yrs old a child has
no filters in the eye to block out UV light. You can actually do MORE
harm to the eye if you put an inferior lens in front of the eye! Behind
tinted lenses, the iris opens to allow more light into the eye; if the
lens doesn’t protect properly, and more UV light gets into the eye
potentially damaging the child’s eye.
Banz should be introduced properly to achieve the best result. When
infants 2-3 months old are laying in the carriage for a walk, slip the
glasses over their heads and let them get used to wearing the glasses.
With older children, it is important that the first time they wear the
glasses they are outside when the sun is bright; as they will be more
likely to see the benefit of wearing glasses if the sun is bothering
them. If tried on inside, the child may have an adverse reaction to the
glasses simply because the room becomes too dark. In addition, parents
who wear glasses themselves set an example little ones will want to
lenses are a UV400 lens. These lenses block out the entire spectrum of
UVA, UVB, and UVC rays from the sun. UVA rays are thought to be more
harmful to the skin – they cause sunburn and get below the outer layer
of skin. UVB rays are the rays thought to be the worst on the eye and
causing damage to the retina and lens with overexposure and
under-protection. UVC rays are extremely dangerous but do not reach the
earth's surface due to absorption in the atmosphere.
Baby Banz frames and lenses made from polycarbonate material. This material makes Baby Banz virtually shatterproof and ensures that they stand up to wear and tear.
For a fun-filled Saturday afternoon, Emme, Nana and I took a trip to Downtown Los Angeles for the 2008 Baby Celebration L.A. event! Hundreds of vendors and organizations manned booths selling fun new baby products and services to new and expectant moms and dads in the Los Angeles area. Emme had a "ball" in the Gymboree Play & Music play area--she recognized all the toys from her weekly classes and didn't want to leave:( And, Mama and Nana had a ball checking out all the innovative new baby products and making a couple of purchases! I've decided to list a five show highlights, since there are too many wonderful products and services to list them all. Some will also be featured in future in-depth product reviews and GIVEAWAYS--yay!
1) CoverPlayard.com has created adorable patterned slipcovers as a cure for outdated and unsightly pack and play type playards. They are made to fit the standard playard of this kind and are a great solution for what to do with the old playard that is perfectly good, but not-so-cute for your new baby! I picked up an adorable multi-colored striped version for Emme's Graco Pack 'n Play that will coordinate with her other toy storage and her red Pottery Barn Kids My First Table & Chairs set.
2) Mobywrap Baby Carrier is something I have been interested in a for a long time but was afraid to purchase without trying it out. Well, the ladies at Mobywrap "wrapped" Emme and I in a their new ivory Organic Mobywrap and I fell in love. Emme immediately laid her head on my chest and relaxed! My 24 lb bundle of love was practically weightless as I walked around in the Mobywrap! With many color and style options, you are sure. I picked up the Chocolate Brown for myself! Now, I still feel like I need my handy-dandy pouch slings for speed and convenience in babywearing, but the Mobywrap will be a great option at home and for longer babywearing outings, such as the farmer's market, walks on the beach and short hikes (we'll leave that one for Daddy to do the babywearing on his back!).
3) Tasty Baby Fresh & Organic Baby Food had a tasting table and Emme was very pleased to partake in the Bangos, Pear and Peach purees! We recently discovered Tasty Baby at Whole Foods and purchased every flavor available there. Emme's favorite is the peach and this is the only brand I have found so far of fresh/frozen & organic baby food that has a peach and a mango option. Emme is a picky eater and Tasty Baby definitely meets the demands of her tiny palette!
If you are a parent to a child under 3 that watches PBS, you, too, are probably a victim of the Clifford the Big Red Dog Theme Song running endlessly through your head! Emme does, indeed, LOVE Clifford the Big Red Dog, as evidenced by her gasping with shock & delight, stiffening her arms and legs and reaching forward at the very site of the big red canine. Okay, I am a fan, too. My personal favorite part of the Clifford story is that Emily Elizabeth (main character little blond girl) loved Clifford so much that he grew too big for their house in the city and the family packed up and moved to Birdwell Island to accommodate him. That has to tug at the heartstrings of anyone who was once a little girl and/or has ever loved a dog. If love really did make a dog grow, my 6 pound Yorkie, would be huge...clearly it does not because she is still smaller than my cat:) Our love for Clifford and dogs everywhere, led us to the Discovery Cube Museum in Santa Ana, CA yesterday, where the Clifford exhibit is going on until May 4th. If you have a little one and will be in the area, it is definitely worth the trip! Check out the fun we had with statue Clifford, real live Cifford in a suit for photos, and Clifford's doggy friends, Chloe & T-Bone! The exhibit is completely interactive and appropriate for ages 12 mo to about 4 or 5 years old--crawlers & walkers. You'll see the Birdwell Island Fairy Boat, apost office for sorting mail, a general store, dress-up-stage, T-Bone's pretend sand box, Chloe's Clubhouse, a little slide down Clifford's tail, and an area for dog bone sorting!
I am a self-proclaimed Professional Babywearer and have to share the newest line of slings I have come across. First, I must explain the situation that I feel qualifies me as a professional baby wearer. We live in a very urban location, which requires me to regularly park my car blocks from my home and tote home Miss Emme and anything I've collected throughout the day's outings (i.e. groceries, diapers, shopping bags, packages, etc.). The stroller is not an option because there are a couple of flights of stairs at the end of the trek home. Friends and family are amazed at what I can accomplish at the end of the day, carrying Emme in a sling, lugging the aforementioned items, diaper bag strapped across me, marching several blocks and up the stairs, all while talking to them on my cell phone. Today I was talking to my mom during the trek and called myself an "Urban Warrior." She suggested I post about it on my blog! It is only by the grace of the baby sling that I am able to accomplish so much, all while keeping my daughter close!
I love all types of slings (and really have my eye on a Mei Tai for my next sling purchase) but I can't get enough of a good ol' baby pouch....enter Polkadot Papoose! With a Polkadot Papoose, you take your measurements to be sure of a perfect fit. There is no tugging at rings for constant adjustments, no extra fabric you don't know what to do with, no fancy knot-tying and no problem looking chic while toting your precious little one. What more can you ask for in a baby pouch sling? To learn more about slings visit: The Baby Wearer for tips on how to use a sling, various carrying positions and the wondrous benefits of babywearing for mother and child.
The most fabulous feature to the Polkadot Papoose is the use of fantastic designer fabrics by Amy Butler. If I had to choose my favorite fabric designers, Amy Butler and Heather Bailey, of www.hellomynameisheather.com blogging fame, tie for first. I LOVE fancy fabrics and in today's fabric world, I could spend hours pouring over fabric swatches online and pining for a sewing machine! (Note: If my husband is reading, I'd like him to know that am wishing for a sewing machine for Mother's Day...yeah, yeah, it is contrary to my deepest feminist ideals and speaks directly to the anti-feminist tradition of keeping women at home and pregnant, but next time I'm pregnant and at home, I'd sure be lookin' good in a maternity smock I sewed myself...don't you think? :) In the meantime, having a Polkadot Papoose will satisfy my desire for designer fabrics and superior craftsmanship!

Emme is very particular for a lass her age when it comes to toys, food, blankets, clothes! She makes her favorites known loud and clear. And, as her mother, I do believe she has pretty darn good taste! It certainly doesn't help matters that her favorite song at mealtime is "My Favorite Things" from the Sound of Music. In my best Julie Andrews voice, I sing my heart out trying to distract Emme while sneaking in a few spoonfuls of pureed food or yogurt at mealtime. The song has started running through my head at all hours of the day and I've even contemplated sewing Emme a dress from some old curtains (okay, well, I wouldn't go that far), but I thought I'd start to make a post now and then about Emme's favorite things.
The first beloved item in Emme's Favorite Things Series is bright and colorful HABA TOYS. Two of Emme's favorite first birthday gifts were made by Haba Toys. Above, Emme checks out the fabulous castle her Daddy put together from her Haba Fantasy Wood Blocks. If the old wooden blocks are starting to look a little tired, you certainly can't get any jazzier than wood blocks from Haba, especially these fantasy blocks! For now, we're doing most of the building and Emme is doing most of the wrecking, but she'll get there:) Here she is splish-splashing in our vintage pink bathtub with her Haba Mermaid Bath Book and Mermaid Squirter Toy. This mermaid makes me almost as happy when I see her smiling face as she makes my little Emme!
Before Emme came along, I adored Haba Toys for their bright colors and whimsical styles. Who wouldn't love flowers with smiling faces, woodland faires, mermaids, mushroom houses for mice and hot air balloon musical mobiles? As a parent, especially one interested in Natural Parenting, I have come to love Haba Toys for their safety, quality and thoughtful European design. In today's world, parents must be vigilant of toy and children's product safety and Haba takes extra care in creating toys with very high standards. Haba's wooden toys and fabric toys are created with safe materials like wood, fabric, and non-toxic paint and Made in Europe. Parent wishing to spark their children's imaginations with sweet, happy toys that take themes from nature, like Waldorf toys do, will find just what they are looking for in Haba Toys.
Haba Toys are so unique and special that they make amazing Baby Shower Gifts, New Baby Gifts, Infant & Toddler Birthday Gifts, and Holiday Gifts. Two great places I have found to shop, with wonderful selections are Baby Ride and Petit Baby. Make sure you use the Haba Toys Coupon Code at Baby Ride (see below). Happy Shopping!

We're just back from a super-fun jaunt to Phoenix, AZ where we visited with family for the Easter holiday and caught a San Francisco Giants and Chicago White Sox Spring Training Game at Scottsdale Stadium. Above, you can see that it's love at first sight with Emme & cotton candy. She had a ball attending her cousins Easter Party the day before Easter. The community throws a FREE party for the local families with hot dogs, cotton candy, snow cones, bounce houses and egg hunts.
A definite trip highlight was the baseball game. We managed to beat the heat and traveled in style with Emme's brand new Bumbleride Indie All-Terrain Stroller in Spice, the hottest new color to hit the stoller market for 20008. Don't quite know what we would have done without the Indie when it came to pushing Emme up the grassy knoll to get to the "General Admission" seating area. Won't be doing that again on the Friday before Easter, one of the final Spring Training games of the year....picture major crowds, the sweltering Arizona sun and a few meager 2'x2' patches of grass here and there for seating in the sun....But, we managed to make lemonade out of lemons (literally---Scottsdale Stadium has awesome fresh-squeezed lemonade!) and have a great day with Nana, Uncle Dan, Aunt Crystal and their four amazing & cute kiddos. Check out Emme in her Bumbleride Stroller at the game....
I've had my eye on a Bumbleride since long before Emme came along and, at long last, I am a proud owner of the newly redesigned all-terrain, 3 wheel, jogger-type "Indie" stroller. A relatively new maker of strollers, Bumbleride has managed to pull together the must-have baby stroller features in The Queen Bee, a pram, The Flyer, an everyday stroller and The Indie, an all-terrain stroller rubber-tire, 3 wheel, jogger-type stroller. The colors and patterns are to-die-for and as a hip, modern mom, they meet the needs of my practical husband and fun-loving self with ease. We are really looking forward to all the places our Indie will take us this summer...we're thinking the beach, dog walks, museums, a family vacation and maybe a few hikes...
Tell us...where will your Bumbleride, or other All-Terrain Stroller be taking you this summer?

We're all looking to live a little more green and the best places to start is with the products we purchase and use with our children. One of the hot new Organic T-Shirt brands for babies and kids is Eco Ike, found at at www.ecoike.com! 100% Organic Cotton t-shirts are so soft (I want one for myself) and are even printed with water-based inks. The graphics are really special, too. Emme has the tee with the elephant riding the bike graphic and I love the "sketchbook" look of the graphic and the little touches of green. I think it is the most unique t-shirt that Emme owns--and with a wardrobe like Emme's, that is saying a lot! Click here to start shoppin' for your own organic baby tee in sizes 6 months to 3T...a great gift idea for the green little ones in your life!

Eco Ike isn't just committed to being GREEN with their products, they like to THINK GREEN in every aspect of their business, from shipping in recycled boxes to shutting down their computers at the end of the day and recycling used paper and boxes and using green cleaning products and appliances wherever they can. Reading about Eco Ike's rigid adherance to "green stewardship" makes me want to get a little greener with my own home & business...

Well, my Emme may be just a little bit Famous, but Marc Anthony & Jennifer Lopez have apparently named their newborn twins Max & Emme and she is sure to be VERY famous. I do hope there will not be an explosion of little Emme's running around! It is rumored that the new Emme's full name is Emelina, the Spanish version of my Emme's full name, Emmeline. Cheers to Marc & J.Lo. for having fabulous taste in baby names. Here's to hoping that their Emme is as beautiful as my Emme;)
Although I probably need a little makeover of my own, I decided to switch up my blog design a little for the new year...hope you like the new look and feel and the continued focus on women-owned business and fun new products and services for mommies & babies!
By the way, the amazing photo of Emme and I is by Ryan Phillips of www.ryanphillips.com and www.ryanphillips.com/blog. They photographed our little family less than 2 weeks after Emme's birth last March and then again last Fall for Emme's 6 month shoot. They will capture us again this Summer for the last of Emme's 3 shoots in a special Baby's First Year package. If you are a photo fanatic like me, you don't want to miss out on having a professional photographer take amazing pics of your baby's amazing first year! Ryan and his wife Carrie are a family-owned photography business, and if you're lucky, you get to see their adorable kiddos (Ryder & Kennady) when you meet up with them for photographs! If you live in SoCal, check them out and consider having Ryan Phillips become your family's photographer, too!
Although Emme's "real" birthday is on the 7th of March, we celebrated yesterday with family and friends! Emme had a blast and so did we. It was too much fun watching her smear pink frosting on her face, wearing her awesome custom birthday hat & bib from Itsy Bitsy Bunny! Do not underestimate the power of the perfect birthday hat to make your baby's birthday perfect! Christy handcrafts these festive party hats and bibs complete with personalized embroidery. The quality is really amazing. Emme will be wearing her hat for many years to come and it will look adorable perched on a shelf in her room in between. Chrsity will work to completely customize your baby birthday hat and or bib with any fabrics, colors, feathers, pom poms, embroidery thread colors and ribbons you like. All this personalized customer service and it ships out to you in 10 days! The price is more than right with hats at about $18 and bibs for about $12, baby will be rockin' out for a rockin' price....

Emme looks so cute in her Hand-Picked Pumpkin Shirtdress. These clothes are adorable for photos as they are simple with just enough vibrant print to be interesting. Emme wears her shirtdress with Babystyle leggings and a Giddy Giddy hairclip.
I just came across one of the cutest lines of onesies and tee's for babies and toddlers when I discovered Huddy Buddy! Their humorous designs are funny and adorable at the same time. Emme has the "Play It Loud" guitar with wings style (my personal favorite) and the Cupcake Shop and Poodle Boutique tees. There seems to be a style for every taste. And, I've got to say that Huddy Buddy designs some of cutest tee's for boys out there. I usually seem to prefer the girl styles from most lines, but I am equally fond of the Huddy Buddy styles for boys, not to mention the unique sets for twins!
Fun onesies and tee's are popular baby gifts at showers and birthday parties and they make an adorable "little something" to send the new family when the baby arrives home. At just $24-$26, baby gifts from Huddy Buddy are priced just right! So, start shopping!
If you are picking up a gift at www.HuddyBuddy.com, be sure to include the adorable giftwrap. You'll be all set for the birthday party or shower!
Because we are all about Family Businesses, we love to bring you the stories behind all this cute Baby Stuff. Robyn, Mommy-in-Chief at Huddy Buddy has a boy, a girl and a company to take care of and boy is she doing a great job! The Daddy even creates all these great designs! And, leave it to real parents to take pride in using top-quality 100% cotton, ethically-made garments, hand screened in small batches with the finest inks. The vibrant designs definitely speak to the quality of screen-printing, when you see them in person. The best things for kids seem to be created by the people inspired by their own children to create. Huddy Buddy is just that, so take a look-see for yourself today!
The New York times published an article today about the potential risks of swaddling. Apparently, in cultures where it is popular to tightly bind infants and then carry them on cradle boards, the incidence of hi dysplasia is much higher than it is here in the US. When done right, swaddling is a wonderful tool for new parents to use in soothing their newborn infant. Up to about 3-5 months, many babies will enjoy being securely swaddled.
"Pediatrics, the journal of the American Academy of Pediatrics, has been looking into whether swaddling can hinder hip development and contribute to hip dysplasia. Some studies have shown that swaddling a baby can reduce crying and lengthen sleeping, but Pediatrics is stressing that there are right and wrong swaddling techniques. “Although we appreciate that swaddling may sometimes be an effective technique to decrease crying and promote sleep in newborns, there is a concern that it may lead to an increase in hip dysplasia.'’
The message is that parents should learn the right way to swaddle (leaving ample room for baby's legs for example) either by learning from their pediatrician, a reputable book or video."
The article refers to Dr. Harvey Karp's Happiest Baby On the Block as an excellent method for safe and effective swaddling. We took a Happiest Baby on the Block class before having Emme and watched the video. In my opinion, it is well worth the time, money and effort to learn this highly effective swaddling technique. It lasts and holds firm. It doesn't fall apart, but you've got to have the right blanket. Because we are such big proponents of swaddling, we offer two of the best swaddling blanket options in our shop at Polka Dot Whale.
Swaddling blankets abound in the baby stores these days! Our 2 favorite brands are Swaddle Designs in soft flannel and Solana BabyWear in light cotton muslin. Both options are large enough to create Dr. Karp's safe and secure swaddle with your baby. This is key to being able to make the swaddle snug, with a long enough end to tuck it in and make the swaddle last. My daughter slept snug as a bug for the first 4 months, wrapped in her Swaddle Designs Ultimate Receiving Blanket last Spring!
Here is a feature on the Solana BabyWear swaddling wraps from our most recent email campaign. Our featured swaddling wraps start at just $19...a real bargain for boutique quality, style & funtionality!
My must-have of the week...a pretty little pinafore from Lassie Girl. I spotted these pinafores on Lassie's Girl's Etsy shop a few months back and have been coveting this Oilily pattern for Emme! Here she is all decked out in this wild European pink & blue pinafore. Handmade by Ashley at Lassie Girl, each piece is carefully sewn to order for your little girl. At just $24, these pinafores are a one-of-kind piece at a bargain price. I know you'll cherish your little one's pinafore as much as I do. They are easy-on and easy-off with the cross back styling. Perfect to dress up a t-shirt and jeans if you are running out to dinner or to an impromptu playdate! I adore the fact that the Lassie Girl pinafores are reversible. Change the style with your mood, or hide that banana smear from lunch by flipping to the reverse side and saving the day!
One of my favorite sources for Tag Blankies, regular snuggly security blankets sized right for little fingers and trimmed with lots of little ribbon loops to keep those fingers busy, is Tag Trendie by Karen Radtke. Everybody knows that babies go straight for the tags on new toys, clothes and blankets, leaving you thinking, "Why didn't I just give her basket of old tags instead of spending a fortune on this basket of new toys?" Well, you can have a new little treat for baby that includes a gaggle of tiny little tags to keep Baby entertained, and won't cost you a fortune. These tag blankies start at just $12.50. I tucked a Tag Trendie blankie into Emme's stocking and she is quite smitten. She hasn't taken too much interest in baby blankies up until now, but she loves to play with all the little tags and I love the fun & funky fabrics and ribbons. It's oh so "trendie"....
Tag Trendie's fabulous designer is Karen Radtke. Karen is a mom, just like you and me, and is able to test out her designs on her own 9 month old baby, making them a sure winner with your baby, too. Her professional background in high-end interior design is what gives her such a great eye for fabric and ribbon combinations. Thanks Karen for an awesome product for babies and their mommies! Check out the endless fabric and ribbon combinations. There is one to suit every taste & style for boy and girl babies. Did I mention that Karen's track record for shipping on time (in an adorable black & white pattern packaging) is stellar! So what's the wait, , Get shopping...
We rang in 2008 with a relaxing getaway to Palm Springs with the Nana and just got back to the hustle and bustle of life and work...uggghhh! However, I was a actually little excited to get back into our daily routine at home with baby Emme after the holidays. I've worked Emme up to sitting in the high chair twice a day and attempting to feed her. For the perpetual nurser, baby food and the high chair can be the enemy, but I've collected some tools that help to get the job done. My New Year's resolution for Emme is to continue my efforts to feed her healthy, fresh, organic foods through the next year of her life. The baby food that fits the bill in our house is Happy Baby food.
Found in the frozen food section at Whole Foods and other natural foods stores, it come in convenient little frozen cubes in plastic trays. I can almost pretend that I whipped it up myself. And, I have found that with Emme's finicky refusal to take in any more than one ounce per feeding of solid foods, it is actually quite economical. I have thrown away the unused portion of four ounce baby food containers more times than I can count in the past 3 months. These one ounce frozen cubes are just the thing and nothing goes to waste. Much to my surprise, Emme's favorite is Grrreat Greens, a combination of mango and spinach. When she puts her finger in the bowl, then sticks it up her nose, it's not a pretty sight, but seeing her actually eating and enjoying it is the most beautiful sight I have seen!
What also makes Happy Baby food a favorite of mine is the endorsement they've received from Dr. Sears. A household favorite pediatrician of mine and millions of others, check out the Sears family pediatric website at www.askdrsears.com. In fact, I was on their website today looking up the mysterious rash that appeared on Emme's legs during the holiday weekend. Doesn't seem to bother her, but those little red bumps sure are bothering me... ;) Anyway, Dr. Sears has helped the folks at Happy Baby to develop some new baby foods that include chicken, turkey and salmon and some dry baby cereals, all including DHA. It doesn't get better than that when it comes to baby food! Oh, and, did I mention that Emme nearly refuses to eat anything but Happy Baby? Read more about the cool chicks behind Happy Baby Food by clicking here...
Now, when I do go so far as to whip up some baby food myself, I like to use my Dex Baby Food Processor. It really makes a smooth puree, in a baby-size portion, no less. It's easy to clean and stores away much easier than a full-size food processor. Mine was a baby shower gift from my dear friend Nora and I am proud to say that it whipped up the perfect banana puree for Emme's first meal of solids this past summer. The Baby Food Processor is great for fresh fruits and veggies or organic fruits and veggies already diced and bagged in the frozen food section. These are known to be a better option than canned ones or jarred baby food.
As Emme starts to venture into the world of "people food", I plan to put my brand-spankin' new copy of Jessica Seinfeld's Deceptively Delicious cookbook to use. A favorite Christmas gift from the Nana. I've got my eye on the Potato Soup, Green Eggs, and Chocolate Chip Muffins. I just might have to start "taste-testing" some of the kid-friendly recipes before Emme is ready for them;) You can check out some of her recipes on her website, www.deceptivelydelicious.com or on www.oprah.com. It really is a fun cookbook with lots of great tips and tricks for those charged with the feeding of children! By the way, Jessica's book is 30% off right now at Borders Books!
To top off all this info about baby feeding, I must include the source for my favorite baby bibs! The bib can be the bane of the mother's existence....trying so hard to keep baby reasonably clean at mealtime. After ruining a few darling fabric bibs by throwing them into the laundry basket crusted with food (that innocent glob of sweet potatoes turns to mold & mildew, ladies!), dear old Nana clued me in to wash them off in the sink, even scrubbing them with the sponge when necessary and hanging them over the sink or draping them in the top drawer of the dish washer to dry between feedings. I keep a couple in rotation because they are never dry in time for the next feeding. I've got to say that I am a big fan of the whimsical cloth bibs from Colby Lane Designs because they are ultra-absorbent, fun to look at and more comfy for baby than plastic. I've got several from Colby Lane Designs and they are truly my favorites! Pick one up for your babe today for just $8 or $9 depending on the designer fabrics and fuzzy chenille backing. The two sets of snaps mean these bibs have serious staying power in the hands of a toddler. The bibs and other baby accessories are handmade by this family-owned business, just like we prefer to shop from. The price and quality of Colby Lane Designs simply cannot be beat!
Until next time, Emme and I are wishing you a wonderful, happy & healthy 2008!
I am "Mom"...keeper of the family social calendar, maker of appointments, planner of parties, caretaker of the kiddo and the pets. The best tool I have found to help me get-it-together and keep-it-together is the MomAgenda. After two years away from a 9-5 working-woman's lifestyle and 2 missed pick-up apointments at Dinner My Way, I decided it was time to get a planner. I have carried a planner since 7th grade, where as the perfectionista teacher's pet, I jotted down every assignment and lunch hour club meeting to ensure I'd never miss a beat and safeguard my perfectionista future. However, leaving that 9-5 world to start my own business, I threw caution to the wind and have since been searching the word "calendar" on Google every time I needed to know the date. Now that I've got Emme and a growing business, this just won't do. I've been browsing for the perfect Mom Organizer and came across MomAgenda a few months back. I purchased a MomAgenda at Paper Source back in August for my best friend-turned-Mommy-Friend, Laura, and have been pining for one since. Well, now I've got it...
My MomAgenda is a beautiful, silky bubblegum pink that makes me feel so "Mommy-fied" I can hardly stand it! The day it arrived in the mail, I immediately filled in appointments, holiday parties, birthdays, social commitments and an upcoming trip to Palm Springs. Filling in my planner felt like coming home to an old friend. How did I get through the last two years without an agenda? I can see that MomAgenda will be keeping my family organized for years to come. It's one very classy desktop organizer and even has a grown-up satin ribbon to keep my place.
My Favorite Features of the MomAgenda Products:
1)The sassy cover colors are yummy grown-up versions of little girl favorites in pink, purple, blue, lime and chocolate...not to mention the elegant silky texture!
2) The Monthly views are all together at the front so you can see the whole year at a glance without flipping through. The Daily views have a special spot for each member of the family (customize to suit your own family configuration) so it doesn't get all jumbled up and there is even a spot for "dinner"--that nagging daily task that only a mom would realize was a big enough deal to put in a planner!
3) Lots of room for notes in the back and special pages for Birthdays, Gift Tracking, Party Planning, Vacation Planning and list of books, music, restaurants, wines...everything you might usually jot down somewhere and forget about;)
4) The address book in the back comes out so you can put it in next year's planner without writing it all out again!
5) There is also a Mini version of the desktop planner great for Mommies on the Go. I find that anything I take out of the house is at risk of getting lost, so the desktop planner works for me:)
6) The coordinating Kitchen Folio is great for keeping together forms and papers needed for school-age and daycare kiddos.
7) Adorable little notepads for "Things To Do" and "Babysitter Info" are actually useful. There are lots of flashy little Babysitter notepad-type of things out there, but this is one I'd actually use!
I'm not the only fan of MomAgenda...Check out the buzz in the press and a review from a fellow Mommy Blogger at So Called Me!
Anything from MomAgenda makes an awesome birthday or holiday gift for the Mommies in your life. The new custom Gift Baskets for Moms are just the ticket--click here to check them out the Mom Agenda Gift Baskets. If you're picking up a MomAgenda for a holiday gift and really want to kick it up a notch, go all out and have it personalized. For a Mommy who loves to plan, there is nothing like seeing her name emblazened on her planner:) If you are worried she already has a favorite planner, pick up a MomAgenda giftcard and she can choose some great organizational items to suit her particular Mommy organtizational needs.

Not just any old baby tee...
I immediately contacted the ladies at Tiny Revolutionary when I came across their collection of T-shirts about a week ago! The graphics and sayings on these tee's are just what revolutionary Mommies are looking for. See for yourself by checking out www.tinyrevolutionary.com.
Now that I've got a t-shirt in hand, I can see that Tiny Revolutionary tee's are "love at first touch." If it weren't enough that the tee's "Speak the Truth", they are the quality that Mommies and Babies crave. They are just what they say they are, "100% Sweatshop Free, 100% of the Softest Cotton You'll Ever Feel, 100% Pre-Shrunk, 100% Awesome!" I'd like to add to this list, 100% Creative and 100% unique! For those looking for some babywear that stands out from the crowd, check out the duds from Tiny Revolutionary.com
Graphics that will make you laugh (and cry)...
The genius behind Tiny Revolutionary comes in the form of 2 Mommies in LOVE with their baby girl. BreeAnne Clowdus and Courtney Howe are savvy, creative and revolutionary in the way they live and the way they do business. I can totally relate to BreenAnne and Courtney...a passion for social justice, a passion for their woman-owned business and that "business" about being in LOVE with your baby girl. Emme speaks from the heart in her "All Babies Are Created Equal Tee"...we'd better wear this one to Gymboree on Thursday, just in case anyone wants to compare notes on child development...hopefully they will get the point;) Oh, and Emme is wearing her environmentally friendly, bright orange gDiaper, which goes perfectly with her socially conscious tee! To check out these flushable diapers visit www.gdiapers.com!
It's pretty easy to develop an obsession with infant hair accessories these days. There are seemingly endless choices in the world of baby hair clips and all are pretty darn cute. But, many require some pretty luscious baby locks to stay clipped in and not be lost in carseat/stroller/carrier/diaper bag oblivion the first time your baby wear it out of the house! To the untrained eye, Emme appears to have very little hair. However, her Mommy knows that she has just enough hair to wear a Giddy Giddy baby hair clip everyday of the week! We've tried many other types of hair clips and many other have worked marginally well, but Giddy Giddy hair clips work exceptionally well...and we're not just saying that! Emme actually wears a Giddy Giddy hair clip all the time. They look so cute that I'll go out of my way to develop an outfit that perfectly suits one of her hair accessories. Giddy Giddy hair clips were designed by real moms and are just what you are looking for when you envision fun, whimsical and crafty looking hair accessories for your baby girl!
Just this weekend, we spent the afternoon at the California State University, Long Beach, Earl Burns Miller Japanese Garden. Emme looked super cute in her Mini Boden polka dot t-shirt and corduroy "baggies" and we pulled the look together with a Giddy Giddy flower clippie in red and blue. See the cuteness for yourself...
Emme dressed up (or shall I say, I dressed Emme up?) as a Flower Fairy for Halloween this past Wednesday! Everyone raved about her darling little Baby Halloween Costume from Gymboree and asked me if I made it. Now, when somebody asked you if you made your child's costume, this could be a compliment OR not a compliment:) In this case, I think it means she looked fabulous. Emme wore her costume from 10AM to 8PM, loving every dramatic moment of the day. I have never seen this baby happier than she was the day she donned this adorable costume. I'm really gonna be in for it when she figures out what the Disney Princesses are!!! We strolled up and down 2nd Street in Belmont Shore, CA with Emme's Uncle Geoff and his girlfriend, Marcia, "trick-or-treating", more for compliments that for candy, and had a ball!
Hope your Halloween for a hoot, too!
Here she is...in all her Fairy Princess Glory!
I never really noticed just how disgusting a grocery cart or restaurant highchair could be until Emme came along. In our neighborhood, the grocery store is home to about 200 of the oldest, rusty, dirty carts in complete disrepair... I don't even want to think about the germs that are lurking on every handle. The best solution to all that nastiness is the Clean Shopper and Clean Diner, both the innovative products of Babe Ease, LLC. Click here to read more about just how dirty shopping carts can be...
My favorite morning show, Good Morning America, recently reported on shopping carts germs. Apparently, shopping cart handles harbor more germs that public restrooms...EEEEKKKKK! The article of this report suggests carrying sanitizing wipes or springing for a shopping cart cover:)

Only a mom could develop such a functional solution for babies and parents everywhere. Read more about Missy Cohen-Fyffe, Mom-preneur behind the Clean Shopper. She even offers advice to other moms looking to patent and sell their own incredible invention. The brand new Super Soft Clean Shopper is 40% fluffier (not to mention comfier for baby), with soft quilted cotton. The prints are really cute, too. Emme is a big fan of the Princess pattern. We have the WildFlower Clean Diner and everyone stops at the table to ask us about it whenever we are dining out! From fast food restaurants to 5 Star Restaurants, the highchairs are usually questionably clean, so the Clean Diner is just what every parent needs. Emme is a big fan of the toy loop on the Clean Shopper and Clean Diner because it lets me attach her favorite butterfly rattle wherever we go and it doesn't fall to the floor every 30 seconds, either!
One of my favorite things about the Babe Ease, LLC products is that they are affordable for families on a budget! Many of the designer cart and highchair covers cost upwards of $100, which just isn't practical for every gift-giver or every family. So, the Clean Shopper (at $22.95) and Super Soft Clean Diner (at $34.95) make it possible for everyone to enjoy the comforts and cleanliness these fine products offer!
And, we're not the only fans of the Clean Shopper and Clean Diner. Press about these products abounds and The Rachel Ray Show has officially endorsed these products. Read more about Clean Shopper on the Rachel Ray Show by clicking here...
Turn on your speakers, 'cause I LOVE the song by Renee & Jeremy that is playing on my blog right now!!!
I came across a lovely CD of music for babies tonight. It's called, Renee & Jeremy "It's a Big World." Of course, I was in the mood for some lullabies after a grueling couple of hours trying to get Emme to hit the hay tonight:) My husband was so meserized when he heard the tunes he stumbled off to bed before one of his favorite shows was even over! And, if the music isn't enough, the Renee & Jeremy CD cover and Renee & Jeremy website are beautiful, too. Amazing artist, Hsinping Pan, is responsible for creating the whimsical and lovely artwork you see below.
Renee & Jeremy are not only "real artists", but they are "real parents" and good people. They reference some amazing causes on their website that work for the good of children. Click here to see more under Causes We Love.
Here is a little of what Renee & Jeremy have to say about this fantastic album:
"It all started with a simple idea, really: to make kids' music that adults could enjoy, not just tolerate - a collection of original songs for parents who appreciate the likes of Jack Johnson, Nick Drake, and Aimee Mann. The result is a treasure chest of luminous harmonies and sophisticated lullabies. Quiet time music for the whole family to enjoy together."
Renee & Jeremy music is available at Barnes & Noble as of 10/2/07! Buy it now at Barnes & Noble for just $12.99 (the best price I found)...

We knew we weren't the only major fans of Bebe Au Lait Nursing Covers (aka Hooter Hiders) and know we know that Elisabeth Hasselbeck of The View is a major fan, too. On Tuesday, October 23rd, Elisabeth will host a Baby Shower on The View and give away Bebe Au Lait Nursing Covers to expectant Mommies! The Bebe Au Lait Nursing Cover is one of our all time favorite baby shower gifts.
I have the Bebe Au Lait in a few different prints to suit my mood (or just in case it has been a while since I forced myself to do laundry). Click here to view the collection of prints! A snazzy little feature I adore is the terry cloth patch in the bottom inside corner. I never seem to have a burp cloth handy, but I can alway find my Bebe Au Lait and grab that corner in a pinch:)
Elisabeth personally selected the Bebe Au Lait "Blomst" and "Soft Spot" patterns to be one of her Top 10 "Must Haves" because they are chic and also versatile as nursing covers, as a sunshine shield for use with baby carriers such as and more. It's the only cover with the patent-pending rigid neckline for full view of baby, a built-in terry cloth section for clean up and small item storage pocket.
Bebe au Lait was started in 2004 by husband and wife team Claire and Ronnie Ekelund. Ronnie's career as a professional soccer player often meant that Claire was attending very public events. When the couple welcomed their second child she wanted to be able to breastfeed her newborn at the games in privacy, without missing any of the game, but she had no accessory with which to cover up. She immediately began working on a solution: a cover that allows eye contact with the baby yet supreme coverage
Shop a great selection of Bebe Au Lait Nursing Covers at www.PolkaDotWhale.com where covers are just $35.00 with free giftwrap and a free ground shipping offer!
A story on CBS 60 Minutes tonight really hit home for me. After a day of celebrating with friends and their young children, I was reminded just how lucky I am to be the mother of a child with access to nutritious food and clean water. Our feast included delicious BBQ chicken and ribs, rice, salad, fruit, cake and ice cream. I watched the children graze freely, to their hearts' delight really, on yummy, healthy food. Something we usually take for granted. 60 Minutes highlighted the fact that children are suffering and dying in developing countries every day from devastating malnutrition. Anderson Cooper, a favorite of mine, reported on the hopeful news that a Ready-To-Use Therapeautic Food (RUTF) called Plumpy Nut is bringing to families in the west African nation of Niger where the severity malnutrition has seemed insurmountable in the past. Read More on the CBS Website...
Thanks to Doctors Without Borders, children are being treated at home for severe and deadly malnutrition which is all too common in Niger and other developing countries around the world. Plumpy Nut is even preventing malnutrition for many babies and young children. The combo of peanut butter, powdered milk, powered sugar, vitamins and minerals is tasty, easy to store and transport and a true miracle food. Anderson Cooper reported that most women in Niger have suffered the loss of at least one of their children to malnutrition and/or starvation. A horrifying thought for a mother in the land of plenty. I shudder at the mere thought of watching my own child suffer in that way. Therapeutic Foods like Plumpy Nut have the power to make this type of pain and suffering a thing of the past. Read more about Doctors Without Borders and their campaign to make RUTF's like Plumpy Nut more widely available to developing nations.
One way that we like to help provide RUTF's to children in need is by feeding our baby, HappyBaby Premium, Organic Baby Food. Find it in the frozen section at your natural foods store. The little frozen cubes are nothing but pure, nutritious food without chemicals, colorants or preservatives. It is VERY YUMMY! HappyBaby has chosen to support Project Peanut Butter, an organization working to stamp out hunger in Malawi with a therapeautic food product similar to Plumpy Nut.

I get such a kick out of what Skipping Hippos' designer, Jolie Fay, has to say about her Skipping Hippos designs:
"If you and your daughter are on an undercover spy mission, do not let her wear the poncho. If you and your daughter are hoping for a low profile, dash out un-noticed, errand, don't put the poncho on her. People will stop you, and people will notice and people will talk about your beautiful little girl in her cute little poncho."
